Iain Oughtred Plans & Kits.
The wooden boat revival has been a long time coming, but now it has arrived, there is one name that stands out above all others: Iain Oughtred. A former dinghy racer turned boatbuilder and designer, Iain developed a cult following both for the beauty of his designs and the quality of the drawings. Challenging the view that building boats was the province of the wealthy, he created exceptionally appealing yet inexpensive wooden boats ideal for amateur construction, often basing the designs on traditional local craft. Still going strong, his designs now number more than 100 and are built around the world by amateurs and professionals alike.
Late at night, out in the workshop, builders of Iain's boats have often admitted to feelings of invisible company, of being part of something much bigger; a strong sense that in the act of working with such beauty they too have become part of that great pantheon of boat builders. Inspired and with invisible friends. Now you may feel it too. Robert Ayliffe

Humble Bee by Iain Oughtred 7' 9" Clinker Pram Dinghy
The classic 8' clinker pram was traditionally one of the most popular of small boats, because of its combination of excellent carrying capacity within a minimum overall size. This makes it ideal for use as a tender to small and medium-sized cruisers. The plywood planking makes the pram an even better tender, allowing lightweight construction in a tough and durable hull, which stays tight in... Puffin by Iain Oughtred; 10' 2" Clinker Dinghy.
This design is based on the classic yacht tender of ship's boat type, refined for the lighter lapstrake plywood construction method. This is a beamy hull, with full bilges and a big transom; this means that although she does row extremely fast, the boat is extremely versatile. Carrying capacity is good, Puffin will carry three safely in fairly choppy water (properly handled of course), and... This design is based on the classic yacht tender of ship's boat type, refin... -
Tammie Norrie by Iain Oughtred; 13' 6" Clinker Dinghy.
Probably Iain's most popular design. The Tammie Norrie is an effortless, rewarding rowing machine for one or two rowers in tandem. The boat is not as flighty as some of Iain’s specifically rowing designs. Tammie Norrie is also an excellent load carrier, all of which suggests a handy picnic and camping boat and she sails well with any of the range of rigs offered in the plans. Tammie...
