Our Promise To Our Friends, our
Customers. Here at Boatcraft, we keep a roof over our
heads and something to eat on the table by selling stuff for wooden boats,
(and often for other things as well) but really, we have a sneaking
suspicion that it is actually more about being able to think about and be
involved in wooden boats when less fortunate souls have to think about
work they don’t really care that much about.
Our promise to
you is that we will try to share our passion for wooden boats with you.
We will do every reasonable thing in our power to help you on your
journey into the world of wooden boats.
Ian has had more than 50
years of wooden boat experience, including building little ones and not so
little ones, sailing a 26ft wooden boat without an engine from Melbourne
to Sydney, a 23ft plywood boat from Victoria to Hobart and return and is currently
the skipper of a 70 foot luxury wooden yawl which was once the Royal Yacht
of Algeria.
He is a member of the
WBAQ and the
Classic Yacht Association. Scott has built a kayak,
and been involved in the building of a larger yacht.
He is also a registered researcher
associate in the shark conservation program.
Geof has built no less than
4 wooden boats and restored some others in the last 10 years. His
restoration of an historic sailing yacht is on display in the
Queensland
Maritime
Museum. Bruce has built several
interesting wooden boats and has restored a number of classic wooden boats
such as a classic Noose River Hire Boat.
In addition he is heavily involved with
both the
Wooden Boat Association and the Queensland
Maritime
Museum.
We support the
Wooden Boat Association of
Queensland and we are members of it.
Every two years, the
Australian Wooden Boat Festival is held in
Hobart.
Boatcraft is heavily involved,
in many different ways.
In 2011, Boatcraft sponsored the bringing
of Iain Oughtred from
Scotland
to the festival to meet with and conduct extremely well attended lectures
about his designs.
Our wider family, the
dedicated souls who carry and sell our products are also passionate.
They include a couple who have sailed
around the world in a catamaran that they built themselves, another couple
who did the same around Australia, the founder of the iconic Duck Flat
Wooden Boats, a sail makers who passes his spare time… well sailing, and a
former naval engineering officer who just couldn’t give up the sea.
Our wider family are active members of the
WBANQ,
WBANSW,
WBAVic,
WBGTas,
and WBASA.
Some fine print.
We are not experts
in the design, construction or repair of boats (or other objects). We do
not hold any professional, technical or trade qualifications in the
design, construction or repair of boats (or other objects).
This paragraph is to give notice that we consider that under the
Australian Consumer Law Schedule 2, section 55 (3) that it would be
unreasonable for you to rely on our skill or judgment. We can only give
general advice from our experience regarding design, construction or
repair. We suggest that if you
have concerns you should, or if the failure of the item in question could
have serious consequences then we believe that you must, consult a naval
architect, engineer or other suitably qualified person. As we have no
control of what you do with the goods that we supply or how you make use
of these goods and as the goods that we supply are not goods of a kind
ordinarily acquired for personal, domestic or household use, we believe
that under section 64A(1) of the Australian Consumer Law Schedule 2, (with
the exception of matters arising under section 51, 52 or 53) our liability
is limited to one or more of the following: (a)
the replacement of the goods or the supply of equivalent goods;
(b)
the repair of the goods;
(c)
the payment of the cost of replacing the goods or of acquiring
equivalent goods;
(d)
the payment of the cost of having the goods repaired.
It is important to
note that as a result our liability does not extend to consequential
damages.
The law requires that
we include this statement:
"Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the
Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a
major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable
loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or
replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure
does not amount to a major failure."
How-ever we understand that sections 55(3) and 64A(1)
of the Australian Consumer Law alter your right to compensation.
