We stock these thin Medium Density Fibreboard sheets so that our customers can buy cheap but effective protective cover sheets for their plywood when it is being shipped around the country.
Medium density fibreboard is made from the fibres of wood, often radiata pine. Often the wood would other wise go to waste. The fibres are pressed together with heat and usually a urea formaldehyde adhesive. It is realatively heavy, 600 to 800 kgm/ cubic metre, compared to marine plywoods which are around 500kg/cum. It is moderately water resistant, but prolonged wetting will cause it to swell and break. MDF can easily be painted, cut, machined and cleanly shaped without splintering or chipping although it is hard on tools.
