MDF Medium Density Fibreboard
Medium density fibreboard is made from the fibres of wood, often radiata pine. Often the wood would other wise go to waste. The fibres are pressed together with heat and usually a urea formaldehyde adhesive. It is realatively heavy, 600 to 800 kgm/ cubic metre, compared to marine plywoods which are around 500kg/cum. It is moderately water resistant, but prolonged wetting will cause it to swell and break. MDF can easily be painted, cut, machined and cleanly shaped without splintering or chipping although it is hard on tools.Most material used for MDF comes from plantations in Australia.
We offer the 3mm MDF primarily for use as cover sheets on shipments of plywood. Once you receive it, it is also very useful for templates and molds. The heavier sizes are handy for setting up your building frame and making jigs.
The MDF we sell comes with All Forest Certified or Plantation certification.
